Last week, we had a really productive workshop with the team at Loughborough University ( Janet Godsell, Kamran Ali Chatha, Naami Sharma, Dr Grammatoula Papaioannou, Christine McNeill, Jonathan Carr) exploring how AI, optimisation algorithms, and LLMs can transform the future of supply chain planning. We explored multiple high-impact problem areas across analytics, scheduling and sourcing. Our agenda:
Intelligent Analytics Layer
Built on the SupplyVue data model, we’re developing an LLM-powered layer that will find the root cause of issues, identify bottlenecks and flow improvements opportunities and raise alerts with explanation.
Scenario Modelling and proposed corrective actions with LLMs
Simulate parameter changes (e.g. MOQ, lead times, inventory settings), Compare multiple policy alternatives side-by-side, visualise downstream impact of decisions (inventory, cost, service.
Smarter Scheduling
We already have a very capable and efficient scheduling algorithm; however, we discussed enhanced optimisation methods, including enhancing with an AI layer. We also examined existing components of our scheduling algorithm and how they can be improved.
Network Sourcing Optimisation
Optimising landed cost for a multi sourcing network scenario. We discussed different approaches to solving problems of this nature and how to deal with the most complex of cases. We’ll be testing new AI methods in this area.
Supply Chain Education & Thought Leadership
We also discussed launching a blog + content series to share these ideas more widely and grow the conversation around AI in supply chain.
Huge thanks to the Loughborough team — great minds and energy, and a shared ambition to push boundaries.
